Shannon Q. Nazzal, CPRE

Shannon Q. Nazzal, CPRE, director, holds a B.A. degree from The Florida State University in Physical Education (sports management), an M.S. degree from The Florida State University in Sports Administration and an M.P.A. degree from The Florida International University. She was appointed in 2017 after serving over 12 years in the field of parks and recreation while in the state of Florida. She is the first director of Parks & Recreation for Calvert County. While in Florida, she served at both the municipal and county government levels having progressive experience culminating with the recreation administrator for Martin County, Florida. Nazzal is a Certified Parks & Recreation Executive (CPRE) as certified by the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and is the second person in the state of Maryland to have achieved this accomplishment. She is a graduate of Leadership Southern Maryland 2019 and a member of Leadership Maryland 2022 as well as a graduate of NRPA’s Director School and Park Maintenance Management School. Nazzal serves in capacities to further the field of parks and recreation as well as improve opportunities for Calvert County. She is a member of the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association and serves as the President of the Maryland Association of County Parks & Recreation Administrators, an affiliate of Maryland Association of Counties (MACo). Nazzal has experience in accreditation and serves as a site visitor, advisor and mentor for Parks & Recreation agency audits across the country and helped Calvert County through a successful initial accreditation process in 2021. Nazzal also serves as an adjunct professor for Frostburg State University in their Recreation, Parks and Sports Management graduate program.
