County Resident Live Christmas Tree and Live Greens Recycling

Calvert County residents can take their live Christmas trees, wreaths and garland to county convenience centers for recycling at no charge from December 26, 2022 through January 28, 2023. See here for locations and hours. After January 30, all live trees, wreaths and garlands must be brought to the Appeal Landfill, and standard yard waste fees will apply. Businesses must bring their holiday greenery to Appeal Landfill where standard yard debris fees will apply.

Live Christmas trees, wreaths and garland must have all decorations, support frames, lights and metal stands removed. Live trees, wreaths and garlands may not be in plastic bags. Live trees are accepted whole. All live materials will be taken to the Appeal Landfill to be mulched. Mulch is available to county residents for free.

Reminder to recycle other holiday items

Wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, holiday cards and other paper are accepted at the convenience centers for recycling at no cost, any time of the year. Cardboard boxes should be flattened and recycled. All packing materials, ribbons and Styrofoam must be removed from boxes for trash disposal. Artificial trees, wreaths, and garlands are not recyclable. Consider donating them to those in need if they are in usable condition.
