Parents can enter the Healthy Families program prenatally or before a baby is three months old. Family Support Workers partner with parents to help build a nurturing relationship between parent and child, provide information on how children develop, and suggest ideas for activities for parents to engage with their child. Services are provided where it is most convenient for the participant – usually at home.
Healthy Families Participants receive:
Connection to needed services such as help with food, housing, medical, education and training so that parents can focus on themselves and their children.
Information on how children develop and learn.
Materials and ideas for activities to do with children to strengthen the bond between parent and child.
Knowledge and skills to help parents prepare children for success in school.
Support for parents with children up to age 5.
Learning Disabilities of America (LDA) of Calvert County, MD
LDA-MD promotes awareness of various learning disabilities and provides information and support to persons with learning disabilities, their families, teachers, and others. Newsletters, lending library, meetings, workshops, etc. Active chapters are also located in Howard County, Montgomery County and St. Mary's County.
The Maryland Child Care Resource Network (MCCRN), a program of the Maryland Family Network, is a public-private partnership designed to expand and improve child care delivery in Maryland. The MCCRN provides statewide referrals.
MCIE offers professional learning, technical assistance, and consultation to build the capacity of schools to include all learners through a variety of services that include families, educators, and administrators.

The Parents’ Place (PPMD) is the only organization in Maryland charged by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, to serve as the state’s Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center. PPMD is one of over 100 PTIs nationwide, providing training and information to parents of infants, toddlers, children, and youth with all disabilities – physical, cognitive, emotional and learning.
As a PTI, the Parents’ Place provides information and support for families who have children and youth with disabilities or special needs, beginning at birth through age 26. Our Parent Educators and PTI staff are available to help you understand and navigate the special education system and provide you with the information and tools you need to be an informed and active participant in your child’s education. All services are provided to parents and families at no cost!
The Parents’ Place Family-to-Family Health Information Center (F2F HIC) provides a central source for families of children and young adults with disabilities and special health care needs to obtain support, advocacy, and information about health care. We have a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the needs of families from racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities.
Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland offers free pregnancy tests, sonograms to confirm a pregnancy, STI/STD testing, material support, and more. All of our services are free and confidential (no insurance required); simply call or stop by any one of our Centers.
Care Net offers a variety of Earn While You Learn classes. These are classes that teach parenting or other life skills and allow the participant to earn "dollars" that are spendable on brand new items in our boutiques. Boutique items include brand new clothing, baby equipment, baby supplies and sometimes gift cards.
